A hushed circuit through one of the largest remaining coastal temperate rainforest stands on the Olympic Peninsula. Ancient western red cedars — some exceeding 12 feet in diameter — crowd the path, festooned year-round with club moss and licorice fern. One boardwalk segment crosses a beaver marsh midway.

Highlights

  • Western red cedars up to 800 years old
  • Beaver marsh boardwalk with waterfowl
  • Year-round lush moss canopy — glows in overcast light
  • Banana slug sightings after rain

Trail tips

  • Best photographed on overcast days — dappled sun creates harsh contrast
  • Stay on trail; root systems are fragile
  • Accessible parking and boardwalk sections are wheelchair-friendly
  • Check for trail closures after windstorms — blowdown is common
